Join us

All you need do is contact us and if possible, come along to our Wednesday practice session so we can judge your skill level and then assign you to a suitable grade.
There is a season fee, agreed by the Committee and payable at the beginning of each season. It is $70 per player, per season and there are three seasons – Winter, Spring and Summer. The fee will vary depending on the Groups costs and its donation level to the Church for the use of its facilities.

Competition

Competition is based on two person teams that play 5 rubbers per round – four singles and one doubles. A Rubber comprises the best of seven games and the scoring is up to 11.
The Home Team umpires the first rubber, the visiting team , the second. Both teams play and umpire the doubles rubber at the same time.
Scoring per rubber is a maximum of 8 points, the loser is given points equal to the games they won, the winner gets the difference between 8 less the losers score.
Games begin by 7:30 and if players are still absent by 8, then they may forfeit their rubbers.

Training

Wednesday morning is available for training – 9 to 12 noon. Cost is $6 per person.
All levels can come – beginners to advanced – as practice games can be set up to suit your circumstances.
Simply turn up and bring your bat.

Have you had knee surgery, back problems, tired of twisting your ankles? Try table tennis. It’s a great way to improve your leg, arm and core strength without overtaxing your joints.

Burns calories

A 168 Kg person can burn 272 calories by playing table tennis for an hour. Considering the fact that the sport is entertaining and addictive, it can be a fun and easy way to burn calories.

Table tennis offers a great way to meet and bond with other people.

Keeps your brain sharp

Playing table tennis increases motor skills and cognitive awareness. Studies in Japan found that table tennis markedly increases the flow of blood to the brain, and could possibly prevent dementia.

Following the table tennis ball as it moves quickly toward you, and following its trajectory as your opponent hits it helps improve hand-eye coordination.

Stimulates various parts of the brain

A player uses the prefrontal cortex for planning. The aerobic exercise from the game stimulates the hippocampus, the part of the brain that allows us to form and retain long-term facts and events.

Improves balance

Staying balanced and being able to quickly change direction are key to being successful in a table tennis rally.
